About The Owner

Donna opened the salon in, March of 2016. At the time, it was unique in McHenry County as the only Multi-Cultural salon and barbershop, specializing in natural ethnic hairstyling and care. Her conviction was that no child in the county should be without such a fundamental service as quality haircare. Donna’s goal was to be a bridge builder in the community while providing the highest level of professional care and service in the industry.

Donna is committed to the empowerment and enrichment of the community members. The Salon has been continually active in that regard. She regularly hosts special events at the salon which promotes group discussions on a variety of topics. In Donna Lowe Salon, she has created a safe place in the community for the area’s youth to be encouraged to celebrate their cultural uniqueness, and cultivate their inner beauty, as well.

Hair Care Education

Our salon provides instruction on the care styling of natural hair textures for all ethnicities. These courses are open to the public, and especially helpful to parents with culturally blended families, particularly those with foster and/or adopted children.

Young Women Empowerment Workshops

Through our Bi-monthly Girls Empowerment workshops, our salon offers young ladies an opportunity for mentorship and encouraging open discussions on varying topics including self-image, bullying, education, and social media. The program is available for young ladies in Middle School through college.

Cut it Out Training

Owner, Donna Armstrong-Lowe, is a Cut It Out Domestic Violence Trainer. Through her involvement in the program, she visits schools, salon and other approved locations to conduct one-hour seminars. These seminars provide domestice violence information and trains other salon professionals on how to respond to someone who may be a victim.

I was adopted at 4 days old, into a white family, and even though my adoptive mother tried her best to take care of my hair, going as far as learning to we still had to rely on the expertise of others, most of the time resulting in unhealthily relaxed and broken hair. To similar families I say, I feel for you and I will offer not only an excellent service, but the utmost knowledge and grace that I can possibly extend. When I graduated from beauty school in 2008, it dawned on me, that I couldn’t even remember what my natural hair looked like. That night I chopped my hair off a began my natural hair journey. I worked in the areas of Streamwood and Sleepy Hallow. I dedicated 8 years growing my skills, but I felt detached from MY community, the universe knew this, and I was lead to Donna Lowe Salon. My areas of expertise are: Cuts, Color, Highlighting, Color Correction, Olaplex, Keratin, Clipper Cuts, Blow outs & Perms.
